3. Before taking any steps to purchase this land, I am to enquire whether the Colonial Government possess any power to acquire the property otherwise than by direct negotiation with the owner; as, if any compulsory powers exist, they may be applicable to the present case.
In order to fully utilize the extended area of the Dockyard it will be necessary that the strip of land between the Commissariat Buildings and Mr Sharp's property be transferred to the Admiralty, and I am to request that Mr Secretary Chamberlain will cause the necessary action to be taken for the transfer to be effected, if there be no objection.
5. The plans of the Extension of the Dockyard are in course of preparation, and they will be forwarded for the concurrence of the Secretary of State for the Colonies before they are finally approved.
